I'll be honest – I wouldn't survive very long in the wilderness. I'd most likely get mauled by a bear while searching for a Wi-Fi signal and trying to Google "how to survive in the wilderness." Lucky for me, Bear Grylls threw himself at the outdoors in my stead so I could focus on designing and and building an online experience devoted to his adventures.
Bully partnered with Discovery to create a multilingual, map-driven hub for Bear Grylls' new show, "Escape From Hell," where visitors could find out more about the harrowing survival stories from each episode. One of the biggest challenges for this project was the multilingual requirement: we needed to launch across fourteen (!!!) different languages.
Escape From Hell was one of those rare, mythical projects where most of the content was provided in advance. This removed a lot of guesswork and allowed me to design exactly for the type of content we expected to launch with. A lot of my initial time was spent defining a style guide and researching multilingual webfonts that that fit within the project's aesthetic. While I focused on the design, ourdevelopers began on the front and back-end build of the site. Once the client was happy with designs and templates, I joined in on the front-end fun.
